Day thirty one - Thursday November 18

Departed: Logroño 7:45am
Arrived: Azofra 3:15pm
Total hours: 7.5
Total kms: 36.8
Accumulated kms: 941.6
Weather: Sunny

The past few days has seen the road wind through many a vineyard; apparently this region, La Rioja, is very famous for its wines. It's the end of the season but still grapes cling to the black and withering husks of their vines like disgraced scientists to their defeated hypothoses. The walk is becoming flatter and blander, and the landscape feels Texan to me for some reason, although I've really only been in the cities of Texas, which are nothing like this landscape. Weird.

I've escaped the small crowd from the last couple of nights, and tonight there are just eight of us in the albergue, none of whom are walking as far as Filipe and I tomorrow (although we will definitely catch some new folks up).

I'm still finding the concept of the siesta a bit strange. Yesterday in Logroño, a city that at least felt as big as Sydney although it was probably smaller, was almost deserted in the afternoon, but alive and pulsing at night with people everywhere. It's very bizarre, and makes the towns I pass through in the afternoons feel very empty.

This was the site of a really old medieval hospital that pilgrims would stay at.

This was a snake I saw just slithering around next to the road.
